Lead Work in Enderby & Narborough: what to know

The roofs we work on in Enderby & Narborough

• Granite village cottages (The historic centre of Enderby, around the parish church and the hall): Walls of local granite rubble under Welsh slate, as on the listed Red House, or Swithland slate, as on Enderby Hall. On roofs this old the nails and battens give out long before the slate, so repairs should keep the original slate.
• Postwar estates (Narborough and Littlethorpe, where Jelson and Barratt built much of the housing): Tiled roofs from the second half of the twentieth century, with timber or uPVC fascias and flat-roofed garages. Typical jobs are ridge and verge repairs, replacing tired felt under the tiles and renewing the roofline.
• New homes (Lubbesthorpe and the newest streets of Enderby): New roofs on new estates are generally sound. The calls here are about warranty snags, a cracked dry-verge cap or a gutter joint that drips.

Planning and permission in Enderby & Narborough

Enderby and Narborough are both in Blaby District, and both have a conservation area covering the historic village centre. Their listed buildings include Narborough’s 13th-century church of All Saints (Grade II*) and Narborough Hall, and in Enderby the hall and the Red House. For a house in either conservation area, like-for-like repairs and re-roofing normally need no consent, but a dormer or roof extension does, and any change to a listed building’s character needs listed building consent.
