Drone Inspections in Glenfield & Braunstone: what to know

The roofs we work on in Glenfield & Braunstone

• Glenfield village houses (Glenfield’s conservation area around Main Street and Church Road): The appraisal names Welsh slate as the traditional covering, with Swithland slate on a few older buildings such as nos 3–9 Main Street, and red clay pantiles at Old Glebe Farm. Matching the right material is the first job on any repair here.
• Council estates of the 1920s to 1950s (Braunstone and New Parks, now in Leicester City, and the Faire estate in Glenfield): Leicester built council housing at Braunstone from 1925 to 1940 and around 3,000 homes at New Parks between 1946 and 1959. Roofs of that age still on their original coverings are overdue for new underlay, battens and ridge fixings, and the chimneys need checking.
• Suburban semis and later estates (Leicester Forest East, and Glenfield’s estate behind Ellis Park): Tiled roofs from every decade between the 1930s and the 1990s, often with flat-roofed garages, porches and dormers added since. The older semis are candidates for re-roofing; the newer homes mostly need gutter, verge and ridge maintenance.

How Glenfield & Braunstone's setting affects the work

Rothley Brook runs through Glenfield, and the Environment Agency covers it with a flood warning area for Glenfield and Anstey; Blaby’s flood risk study picks out parts of Kirby Road, Main Street and Station Road. Near the brook, a roof’s job is to get rainwater off and away quickly, so gutters and downpipes need to be clear and sound. Across LE3, the parks and mature street trees of the older estates, from Braunstone Park to Ellis Park, keep gutters busy every autumn.
